China Focus is a student-led publication that aims to engage a broad audience. Its editors collaborate with contributors from UC San Diego and beyond to help bring diverse perspectives and voices to the public conversation.

Tara Wu

Editor-in-Chief

Tara is pursuing a master’s of international affairs at the School of Global Policy and Strategy with a regional focus on China. She studies the environmental impact of China’s renewable energy transition with the Power Lab at UCSD. She has written for Smithsonian magazine and The Morning Call. She has a BS from Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism with a double major in environmental science.

Junteng (Tony) Yang

Digital Media Manager

Tony is a Master’s student in Public Policy at UC San Diego’s School of Global Policy and Strategy. With experience in journalism, media, and policy research, his interests focus on international trade, global business strategy, and the role of data in policy analysis.

Jade Nettrour

Jade is a Master of International Affairs student at the School of Global Policy and Strategy, UC San Diego on the (Business) Management track.  She graduated from the University of California, Irvine in 2023 with a bachelor’s degree in International Studies with Program Honors. Her research interests include (global) racial politics, popular culture, media representation, and cultural communication.

Tianrui Huang

Editor

Tianrui is an alum from UC San Diego, who studied philosophy, economics, and communication. Her research interests include social protests, China’s social policy, and U.S.-Chinese media studies. As a journalist, her works appeared in the oldest LGBT news Washington Blade, the investigative outlet Voice of San Diego, the largest journalism association Society of Professional Journalists, and Hong Kong-based online media RADII. 

Nathan Mussetter

Nathan is a second-year MIA student at the School of Global Policy and Strategy. He graduated from the University of California, San Diego, in 2023 with a Political Science – International Relations major. His research interests are U.S.-Chinese relations, Chinese technological policy, and Chinese national security.
