Has the EAST Risen Again? Lessons from History

The 21st Century China Center will be hosting a webinar on January 13th, at 1:00 pm PST. Dr. Yasheng Huang, professor of international management at MIT, will present from his book project on four factors that have shaped China’s development: Education, Autocracy, Stability and Technology (EAST). He focuses on the historical patterns of technological development from the Spring and Autumn Era (770 BCE to 476 BCE) to the Qing dynasty (1645 CE to 1911 CE) and draws lessons for the technological development and for the applicability of the EAST formula today. This webinar will be moderated by UC San Diego professor Victor Shih.
